Hugh Stay The Same
Title Submitted By: Josh Oakes
Genre: Brit-Pop, Comedy, Hugh Grant, Puns
Before I had an idea for lyrics, I played a few bars of this music for my husband, who immediately said, “sounds kind of beatle-esque” to which I replied, “Yeah, I just keep picturing Hugh Grant every time I play it.”
So, he suggested the title, “Hugh stay the same” about how good ole Hugh plays the same character in every film…plus the song sounds like it belongs on one of the soundtracks for some such film.
A new face comes in the world
September, 1960
It looks familiar
That’s how it always will be
Blue eyes, boyish charm
Does he ever know what’s going on?
Maybe he’s happy maybe he’s sad
Hugh just never know
A new part, new story new name
New lines, but Hugh stay the same
The scene ends, but the costume remains
A new day, but Hugh never change
Go to the cinema
See him on the big screen
He stares at the camera
And makes a lot of money
Floppy hair, Furrowed brow
Love sick, bumbling, and stumbling around
He might be mad, he might be confused
Hugh just never know
A new part, new story new name
New lines, but Hugh stay the same
The scene ends, the curtain comes down
A new day, but Hugh stay the same
“I suppose in the dream, dream scenario, I’d just change my personality,
because you could do that in dreams….and I’m a complete moron.”

Sheesh, I am such a sucker for Hugh Grant movies! There’s a lot of truth in this song. Love it!
