I Left My Heart in the Urban Sprawl
Title Submitted By: Andy French
Genre: Indie-rock, pop
I started out trying to write this from more of a comedic angle, but it wound up taking a more serious turn…maybe somewhere between the 405 and the 101.
If you’ve ever been in love in L.A., this song is for you. Someone on the FAWM site liked it so much, they covered it and changed it to a rock song. Awesome!
I remember days
When the summer sun
Would beat through the haze
Down on the blacktop
Burning up like love
We’d drive around
Windows rolled up high
Our love on fire
Growing underneath the big brown sky
Those were the days
Those were the days
I will remember your
Eyes shining bright like the lights of the buildings
I will remember your
Hand in mine flying down the freeways
Cemented memories of the strip malls
I left my heart in the urban sprawl
I remember nights
We’d sneak away
Past rows of streetlights
And the houses
That all look the same
You’d bring me home
We’d stay outside
You’d hold me close, kiss me
Underneath the orange, glowing starless sky
Those were the days
Those were the days
CHORUS
Every time I drive down the 405
I hear your name
In every city block, in every parking lot I see your face
